Hakim:Government crisis to be resolved soon

Tuesday, August 31, 2010 Head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council Sayyed Ammar Al Hakim affirmed on Monday that the long-delayed formation of a new government could be resolved within days.

“We have started to reach the end of the tunnel. In the next few days, we are heading toward resolving the issue and accelerating the formation of a new cabinet,” Hakim told a news conference in Kuwait City.

Iraq’s stability is an integral part of the region’s stability, he said.
Al Hakim proposed “a broad-based coalition government. It is not possible for a group, party or sect to take over the country and leave out others.”

Basra ports receive 51 ships in August

BASRA / Aswat al-Iraq: A total of 51 commercial ships have arrived in Iraqi ports in Basra province this month, the public relations and media director at the State Company for Iraqi Ports said on Tuesday.
“The number of commercial ships which arrived in Basra in August reached 51 carrying varied cargos,” Anmar al-Safi told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
“Seventeen ships arrived in Umm Qasr port, 22 in Abu Falous port while Khour al-Zubeir port received 12 ships,” he added.
The Shiite province of Basra, 590 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, has five commercial ports and two oil ports: al-Maaqal, established in 1916 by the British forces and handed over to Iraqi authorities in 1937;

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Dividing power between the Al-Iraqiya Alliance and the Iraqi National Alliance (INA) is a national project that is doable, a member of the Al-Iraqiya said on Tuesday.
“The Al-Iraqiya has proposed this project that has been approved by both the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) and the Sadr movement,” Aliya Nssayef told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.
She explained that dividing power does not mean Ayad Allawi (Al-Iraqiya) and Adil Abdilmahdi (INA) will each hold the premiership position for two years, but the project indicates that authorities will be distributed on them both.

Iraqi Airways to initiate Basra-Mash’had Line next week

BAGHDAD / Aswat Al-Iraq – Iraqi Airways is planning to initiate its new Basra-Mash’had airline next week, according to a Transportation Ministry statement on Tuesday.”Transport Minister, Amer Abdul-Jabbar, has instructed his Ministry’s Iraqi Airways Company to initiate an airline between southern Iraq’s Basra and (Iran’s) Mash’had cities, as from September 9, 2010, with two air flights per week, according to a request by Basra’s Governor, Shiltagh Aboud Al-Mayah,” the statement pointed out.

Iraq’s core inflation falls to 1.7 pct in July

BAGHDAD, Aug 30 – Iraq’s core inflation continued to slow in July, dropping to an annual rate of 1.7 percent from 2.7 percent in June, a central bank official said on Monday.
The bank gave no immediate explanation for the fall in core inflation, which excludes expenditures on fuel.
The oil sector accounts for more than 95 percent of government revenues in Iraq, which is now pulling out of years of sectarian violence following the 2003 U.S.-led invasion.
Outside of oil, private investment has lagged despite a sharp fall in overall violence in the past two years and ahead of a full U.S. military withdrawal in 2011.

BAGHDAD (Iba) ..Foreign Ministry announced for Iraq’s accession to membership of the States were part of the Hague Code of reducing the spread of ballistic missiles.

The ministry said in a statement issued today that the Iraqi Embassy in Vienna received a letter from the Permanent Representative of France to the International Atomic Energy Agency, in his capacity as rotating president of the Hague Code to reduce the spread of ballistic missiles, which he offered congratulations to the Iraqi government on the occasion of Iraq’s acceptance of membership in the Code.
